- Amy Lynn Best has appeared in many movies, including "Splatter Movie: The Director's Cut," "A Feast of Flesh," and "Countess Bathoria's Graveyard Picture Show". Anyone looking for more info on Amy or her films, can visit her at her IMDB page or her website page.
Q: Amy, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?
A: My husband, Mike Watt, was in film school when we met. I helped him out on his projects and when he graduated we kept going with it.
Q: Would you please explain your acting role in "Splatter Movie: The Director's Cut."
A: I play Amy Lee Parker, the director of Tesseract. The movie within Splatter Movie.
Q: I’ve noticed you also had other jobs with the film. Can you explain all the other hats you wore when putting this film together?
A: Well, I also directed the movie. And, like most of our other projects, produced it.
Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.
A: I would like people to watch it without anyone else’s input, including my own, and take from it what they will.
Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?
A: The most difficult part of the filming was the we were shooting in a haunted house that was being rebuilt for the upcoming haunt season. So there were days where there would be a lot of construction and noise.
Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work they way you thought it could?
A: During pre production when within a day we got the insurance, the scheduling, a couple of our actors confirmed and the location confirmed.
Q: Looking back, I see that you’ve also appeared in other films. Can you tell me a little about each one and your experience with it? First, "A Feast of Flesh"?
A: I also produced this as well. This was my company’s vampire movie. It was a good shoot with a lot of new people.
2) How about “Countess Bathoria's Graveyard Picture Show”?
A: This is actually an anthology that Melantha Blackthorne is doing. Our short in it is called Retreat. The anthology consists of zombie shorts.
3) How about “Dr. Horror's Erotic House of Idiots”?
A:
This is a wonderful, fun movie made by Paul Scrabo and his wife George Ann. My part was a short scene where George Ann, Mike, Charlie Fleming and I did a spoof of Science Fiction movies.
4) And finally, “The Resurrection Game”?
A: The Resurrection Game was the first feature from Happy Cloud Pictures. That is the movie where I learned pre and post production, in addition to production.
Q: What's next for you? What does 2009 hold for you?
A:
My company has a few projects line up for this year as well as releases of Splatter Movie, The Resurrection Game and Demon Diva’s and the Lanes of Damnation. I’ll also be appearing at conventions, although fewer than in recent years.
Q: If you and I were to talk 1 year from today, what do you think would be on your plate at that time?
A: Hopefully the same as now. Movies to finish, movies to start, conventions to attend and other productions to be in.
Q: Is there any movie director or producer you really want to work for one day? Or perhaps any actors or actresses you’d like to direct in a film?
A: I’ve been lucky enough to work with a lot of the people that I’ve wanted too. One person I would like to work with though is Joss Whedon. I’m a big fan of his work.
Q: Are there certain types of films you enjoy doing? What do you look for when picking projects?
A: I look for a good script and for the filmmaker to care about and know something about filmmaking. Not just turning on the camera but writing good characters and plot, lighting, directing and all that goes with it.
Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?
A: Most people know, but I like to tell people anyway, I love animals. I have 3 dogs, 4 cats and 2 horses.
Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?
A: Last horror movie I went to see was "My Bloody Valentine". I went only because Mike did an on set interview for Fangoria and I was interested in the 3D process that they used. I thought it was interestingly photographed.
One of my favorite obscure horror movies is I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle. Fun film that I recommend seeing if you like weird, offbeat horror films.
Q: Thank you very much for doing this.
A: Thank you!
