An American Werewolf in Paris (1997)

- written January 2004

The daughter of a werewolf is alive and living in Paris where her mother and stepfather are trying to overcome her lycanthropic disease. A trio of American tourists on a “thrill-seeking” trip around Europe manage to stop her from plunging to her death from the top of the Eiffel tower. Doing so however gets one of the men bitten and soon he will try and save her while escaping his destiny too. Oh, and trying to save the entire city from being taken over from a secret werewolf society.

Overall: Some people claim that this is a remake of the original film but I found the connections a little weak. In fact, the whole secret society stuff just wasn't interesting. I liked some of the effects but clearly the movie was trying to capitalize on the first film and using “Blade-like" storylines. That turned me off at the time, and still does...makes it more of a sequel to “Near Dark” if anything. It was nice that they tried to at least allude to the first film but still...silly stuff here. The bungee cord incident? Good effects but silly idea. This film is “skippable.”
