Since the beginning of time, the Predators, the feared, hulking alien game hunters, have come to Earth for one simple reason: to engage in a “coming of age” ritual. To become "adults," the teenage Predators have to hunt down a hive of Alien warriors and successfully defeat them and claim the skull as its trophy. However, during one hunting session, the easily aggravated Aliens fight back, leading to the destruction of the two species and the people who worshipped the Predators as Gods. Nearly two thousand years later, billionaire industrialist Charles Bishop Weyland rediscovers the pyramid, buried thousands of feet under the ice of Antarctica. Knowing that he has discovered something important, Weyland fixes up a team, led by Lex Woods, and heads down to the Antarctic to find the pyramid. But once they get there, the enslaved Queen Alien awakens from her sleep, which results in the production of new eggs. And to make matters worse, the new hunting clan of teenage Predators have arrived, ready to hunt down both the Aliens and the humans within...
Overall: Well I had more than a few questions relating more to facts and plot than anything. The film talks about the fact that the Predators taught the human race about pyramids and construction and all that but also indicates a long time ago, Antarctica wasn’t frozen wasteland. Although I can buy the idea that these “rituals” were happening at pyramids around the world, the fact is, I don’t buy that they were happening on the frozen continent. Also, the fact is we spend so much of the movie showing how cold it is there and our main character takes her jacket off at the end basically wearing just a shirt. Come on…it’s 100 degrees below zero at best – I can’t suspend my disbelief that much. Also I sort of liked the addition of “Bishop” which hints into the future “Alien” movies that perhaps the android was based on Weyland himself and his look. And they toss in the knife/hand game too. I liked also the idea that the aliens were a slave race by the predators for gaming material. And of course the humans screwed everything up by stealing the guns of the predators, not knowing what they were. Frankly I tried to ignore the pre-release hype of the film in terms of the actual plot because I didn’t want to get too “up” or “down” ahead of time. And I never did catch the comic book series. However, I'm not gonna ignore the plot holes, of which there are too many to go over. Normally I don't mean to harp on this, but hey, someone has to. So listed below are a few major ones I've collected from others since they took the time to write them and in the links below, is a site dedicated to movie mistakes detailing a ton more... 1) During the mission briefing, there is talk of the pyramid containing elements from 3 different cultures. The premise is that the Egyptians, Cambodians, etc. learned things like written language from the predators. However, if this is the case, then why does the predator pyramid use 3 different Human languages instead of Humans using the predator language? I think the overall plot and details could have been better and done more concisely. To me, this movie has its flaws in its plot, as did "Freddy vs. Jason" and yet I still liked the ideas. In fact, the alternate beginning placed on the dvd was a nice touch and should have been included in the film. The deleted scenes were useless one way or the other unfortunately. I enjoyed the movie for the battles and to see what the producers were gonna do with the movie. This isn’t the best movie in either of the series but frankly I loved the build-up and I had a good movie experience. And really, it was a fun 90 minutes. |
