The good Doctor is back after a 3 year hibernation and is in search of the “River of Life.” After stealing a precious papyrus from a local historian, Phibes takes his female assistant and wife to Egypt in hopes to resurrect his wife from the dead. However the same 2 bumbling detectives are still after him and so is the historian, Darius Biederbeck. Maybe Phibes can be stopped once and for all?
Overall: Not sure you truly needed a sequel to part one but it did have an open ending. The first film had a story which tried to get the audience feeling bad for the antagonist. This time, no one cares about Phibes nor feels sorry for him. Frankly, I’m still wondering what the true relationship between Phibes & his assistant is...shouldn’t the dead wife be jealous? :) It’s not a good film and really bogs down with the 1970’s garb and music (although supposedly taking place in 1930’s). Comparison: The Mummy meets Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade |
