Abbott & Costello Meet the Mummy (1955)

The dynamic duo is back one more time for some scares and is doing so in Egypt. They two are looking for work and overhear a conversation about a mummy. They go to investigate further and find the Doctor, who found the mummy, dead and they in turn become suspects in the murder while being chased by a mysterious lady who is responsible for the death, because she wanted the mummy’s amulet, which just happens to come into Costello’s possession. Soon, the group is headed out the mummy’s tomb to conjure it up once and for all so they can release the treasure found therein. But not if our duo can help it!

Overall: This is their 2nd to last film together and needless to say all the jokes have been done before...well almost. The “pick and shovel” routine was new but the rest (such as the hamburger switching gag), are old. The iguana scene was silly and unnecessary. The film is quite fast-paced though (outside of the traditional musical numbers) but they both look so old...and the mummy’s appearance is downright scandalous. Bud Abbott was 60 years old in this film and looks every bit of it. Lou Costello was 49 years old but still looked slow. I will say that the act involving the 3 women and the guy was fantastic. Those people were great acrobats, regardless that their skit basically was a guy smacking 3 ladies around and the women were attacking him back. It's not one of their best but has some pretty neat stuff regardless.
