287th Hour (2006)

poster

Summary: How much lack of sleep can the human body endure? Studies have shown that the longest someone has gone without sleep was 288 hours or twelve days before dying. A cold blooded killer takes a group of people hostage and forces them to stay awake for twelve days. Now anyone who falls asleep dies. Will anyone live to see the 288th hour? (taken from dvd cover)

Overall: Jeremy Isbell...2 words which for me at least, make Uwe Boll at least look competent. Sorry Jeremy...you are trying...I think...but these films are just unwatchable. My brain hurts after the 60 minute film is done.

The film starts with these 2 guys walking down the beach..back and forth...up and down, back and forth...etc. The footage is actually replayed in its entirety with new dialogue at one spot. The sound is fairly indecipherable for much of the movie. Check out when he has the girl Lauren on the boat. The wind gets more microphone time than the characters do. You can’t understand anything that is heard on the movie, and much of the film is the same walking back and forth down the beach. Not sure if we’re supposed to believe they walked for 12 days or not...but frankly, the concept on the cover of the dvd sounds interesting. But that’s just not what the film is about. It’s just walking back and forth and eventually the film ending. That’s it. That’s all. Not sure what ideas Jeremy had but they never made it into the final DVD release, that’s for sure. It’s a terribly useless film.

P.S. Randy Gardner holds the "World" record for remaining awake for 264 hours (11 days) in January 1964.

P.P.S. Tony Wright, 42, from Penzance, in south-west Britain broke Randy's record in May 2007 at 266 hours.

P.P.P.S. The 276-hour Guinness Book of World Records mark was set by Toimi Soini in Hamina, Finland, between February 5 and 15, 1964. All editions of the Guinness Book of World Records from 1965-1989 confirm this record, yet Randy Garner's was the most scientifically rigorous long-term human sleep-deprivation study which until Tony Wright, stood as it was easiest to confirm the veracity of it all. Guinness eliminated the record after 1989 hoping to discourage this type of record.

P.P.P.P.S. And...2 people who might have broken the record without trying: 449 hr (18 days 17 hours) by Mrs. Maureen Weston of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire in a rocking chair marathon on 14 Apr.-2 May 1977. Oh and she didn't even keep the rocking chair record. Robert McDonald of California broke her record soon after with 453 hours. However...the key there was..."were their rocking chairs moving," not "were they awake?" Think about it.

P.P.P.P.P.S. Stay tuned...David Blaine plans to attack this record in 2008.
